Amul Dairy launches scientifically formulated feed for goats and sheep

Mandeep Kaur

In a pioneering move to empower small ruminant farmers, Amul Dairy, Anand, has launched its first-ever scientifically formulated feed specifically designed for goats and sheep. This initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s national vision, spearheaded by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, to strengthen small ruminant farming and improve the livelihoods of millions of marginal and landless farmers.

The launch ceremony was held in the esteemed presence of Shri Vipulbhai Patel, Chairman, Amul Dairy, Shri Kantibhai Sodhaparmar, Vice Chairman, Shri Sanjaybhai Patel, Board Member, and Dr. Amit Vyas, Managing Director, along with senior officials of Amul Dairy.

The newly introduced feed is developed in a 25 kg pack with a 4 mm pellet size, offering a nutritional profile of 16% crude protein and 2.5% crude fat. Enriched with essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and herbal additives, the formulation incorporates high-quality traditional ingredients such as soya meal, maize, barley, wheat bran, rice bran, molasses, DDGS, and salt.

According to the company, this feed is a scientifically balanced nutritional solution, specially designed to address a longstanding gap in small ruminant care. With a daily intake of just 250–300 grams per adult animal, farmers can expect significant improvements in growth rate, milk and wool yield, and a reduction in mortality among lambs and kids.

Amul Dairy’s latest innovation reinforces its commitment to inclusive and sustainable rural development through science-driven, farmer-centric solutions. This targeted intervention is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing animal health and productivity, thus contributing to improved income and welfare for smallholder livestock farmers across the country.
