FoodTechBiz Desk

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, has successfully facilitated the first-ever export of GI-Tagged Karbi Anglong Ginger from Assam to London, marking a proud milestone for the state’s agricultural exports.

The inaugural consignment of 1.2 metric tonnes signifies a major step forward in promoting premium agricultural produce from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district to international markets. The shipment was ceremonially flagged off on March 2, 2026, in the presence of senior state officials and APEDA representatives, underscoring strong institutional support for farmers and exporters from the North Eastern Region.

This landmark export highlights the growing global recognition of GI-tagged products from India and reinforces efforts to enhance value realisation for farmers.

APEDA reiterated its commitment to expanding India’s agri-export footprint, strengthening market linkages, and ensuring sustainable growth and improved income opportunities for producers across the country.
