In a significant milestone for India's agricultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first-ever sea shipment of flavoured Makhana (fox nuts) from Bihar to Canada, further strengthening the global presence of one of the state's most celebrated superfoods.

The inaugural consignment comprised 7 metric tonnes of flavoured Makhana shipped in two containers from Darbhanga, Bihar, to Canada, highlighting the growing international demand for value-added Indian food products.

The successful export underscores the increasing role of value addition and quality processing in enhancing the competitiveness of Indian agri-products in global markets. By promoting processed and branded Makhana for export, the initiative has enabled farmers to achieve over 50% higher price realisation, creating greater income opportunities while expanding market access.

Bihar accounts for the majority of India's Makhana production and is renowned for producing premium-quality fox nuts. The latest export initiative is expected to boost the state's Makhana industry by encouraging processing, branding, and export-oriented production, while reinforcing India's position as a reliable supplier of high-value agricultural products.

The initiative reflects APEDA's continued commitment to promoting value-added agricultural exports, strengthening supply chain linkages, and connecting Indian farmers with international markets. By facilitating exports of premium processed products such as flavoured Makhana, APEDA is helping enhance farmers' incomes while showcasing India's diverse agri-food offerings to consumers worldwide.
