The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd., has successfully flagged off the maiden export consignment of fresh Halman Apricots from Ladakh to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Sourced from the pristine high-altitude belts of Kargil, the Halman apricot—renowned for its distinct sweetness, rich flavor, and long shelf life—is making its global debut under the “One District One Product” and “Vocal for Local, Global Outreach” initiatives of the Government of India.
The inaugural consignment of 1.5 metric tonnes, procured directly from local farmers, was meticulously packed and assessed to meet stringent international quality standards. This milestone underscores India’s sustained efforts to promote region-specific exports, enhance global visibility for indigenous produce, and support stakeholders through market access and logistical facilitation.
In partnership with LuLu Group India, the apricots will be positioned across the vast retail network of LuLu Hypermarkets in the Gulf, ensuring premium shelf presence and opening new market linkages for Himalayan-origin fruits.
Speaking on the occasion, APEDA officials emphasized that this initiative not only boosts farmers’ income in Ladakh but also strengthens India’s footprint in the global horticulture trade, aligning with the government’s vision of sustainable, inclusive export growth.
