FoodTechBiz Desk

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has successfully flagged off the first-ever air shipment of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Indi Lime and Puliyankudi Lime to the United Kingdom. Marking a significant milestone in expanding India’s premium regional produce to global markets, the consignment included 350 kg of Indi Lime from Vijayapura, Karnataka, and 150 kg of Puliyankudi Lime from Tamil Nadu.

Known for its superior quality and naturally distinct characteristics, Indi Lime is celebrated for its strong aroma, balanced acidity, and traditional value. The fruit reflects the unique agro-climatic conditions of the Vijayapura region, which contribute to its exceptional flavor and cultural significance in local cuisine and indigenous healing practices.

Similarly, Puliyankudi Lime, originating from the Puliyankudi region of Tamil Nadu, is prized for its high Vitamin C content, natural antioxidant properties, and recognized use in traditional medicinal applications. Its crisp tang and health benefits have earned it a cherished place among consumers and culinary experts alike.

This initiative reinforces APEDA’s continued efforts to promote India’s GI-tagged agricultural products in international markets, ensuring global recognition for unique regional varieties and supporting value realization for farmers at the grassroots level.

By facilitating premium export linkages, APEDA aims to enhance farmer incomes, strengthen rural economies, and introduce global consumers to the rich diversity of Indian agricultural heritage.
