In support of the International Year of the Women Farmer 2026, the Fresh India Show 2026 will host an engaging panel discussion titled “Inclusive Growth in Farm Produce – Women’s Role from Production to Consumption.” This impactful session will highlight the increasing influence of women across India’s agricultural and horticultural sectors, while addressing the critical shift from participation to ownership.

As India’s agriculture sector becomes increasingly women-led, the panel will examine how women are moving beyond traditional roles to become key decision-makers and entrepreneurs along the entire value chain. From cultivation and aggregation to processing, branding, and consumption, the discussion will provide a comprehensive view of women’s growing influence in the sector.

Bringing together a diverse group of industry leaders, policymakers, agri-entrepreneurs, and development experts, the session will showcase real-world success stories and case studies. A key highlight will be the impact of women-led Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), supported by organizations like the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), in empowering women farmers through collective action. These initiatives have improved market access, increased price realization, and helped women become successful agri-entrepreneurs.

The panel will also explore women’s leadership in climate-resilient agriculture, with a specific focus on millet revival efforts led by grassroots organizations such as the Deccan Development Society. These initiatives show how traditional knowledge, combined with sustainable practices, can promote both environmental sustainability and economic resilience.

In addition, the growing role of AgriTech platforms will be explored, highlighting how companies such as Sahyadri Farms, DeHaat, AgroStar, and Ninjacart are enabling digital inclusion and strengthening market linkages for women farmers across India.

Despite these advancements, the session will address ongoing structural challenges, such as limited credit access, obstacles to land ownership, and gaps in financial literacy. It will also acknowledge the scope and influence of government-led initiatives like the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), which continues to be vital in promoting women’s economic empowerment in rural India.
