FoodTechBiz Desk

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has officially designated the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM-K), Kundli as a National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for Fortified Foods.

This recognition, issued under Regulation 3 of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018, follows the Office Order No. 12013/02/2017-QA dated 25 August 2023, and is effective from the date of issuance.

With this milestone, NIFTEM-K becomes the only food laboratory in India among all Government-supported academic institutions, R&D centres, and universities to be recognized successively as a Primary Laboratory, Referral Laboratory, and now a National Reference Laboratory—a testament to its excellence in food testing, method validation, and commitment to national food safety standards.

This recognition strengthens India’s efforts to ensure the quality and safety of fortified foods across the country and paves the way for more innovation and trust in food systems.
