Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul), India’s iconic dairy brand and the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, has announced a landmark partnership with Spain’s leading dairy cooperative, Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP), to launch Amul Milk in Spain and across the European Union.

The official launch event was held at the Embassy of India in Madrid, graced by H.E. Dinesh K Patnaik, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Spain; Mr. D. Fernando Heredia Noguera, Deputy Director for International Relations and Community Affairs, Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Mr. Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP; along with senior representatives from Amul and its Spanish channel partners.

Amul, with its 3.6 million Indian dairy farmers, is globally recognized as the strongest dairy brand and India’s largest consumer products group brand with a turnover exceeding USD 11 billion. With 112 dairy plants and a daily milk handling capacity of 42 million litres, Amul is also the 8th largest milk processor globally (IFCN ranking).

COVAP, founded in 1959 and based in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, is Spain’s premier first-tier dairy cooperative. With over 2,000 active farmer-members, its advanced dairy facility processes over 400 million litres of milk annually and exports to more than 30 countries including the U.S., U.K., and various Asian markets.

The partnership marks Amul’s first-ever launch of fresh milk in Europe. Initially, Amul Milk will be available in Madrid and Barcelona, followed by rollout in Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and Lisbon (Portugal). Amul also plans to expand to Germany, Italy, and Switzerland in the near future.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, stated, “We are honoured to associate with COVAP, a highly respected Spanish dairy cooperative. This collaboration ensures that Spanish consumers can now enjoy the purity and nutrition of Amul Milk. This marks a proud milestone as we introduce fresh Indian dairy to Europe for the first time. In alignment with our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of taking Amul global, we are confident that 2025 – the International Year of Cooperatives, as declared by the United Nations – will see the Amul brand connecting with Indians and global consumers across borders and showcase the power of cooperation between cooperatives.”

COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, said, “This partnership with Amul allows us to work with another cooperative to help them grow their brand in Spain, benefitting not only our own dairy farmer members, but those in India as well. The collaboration brings together COVAP technology capabilities and high-quality milk with the Amul brand’s rapidly growing and well-known, international reputation for premium dairy products.”
