The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has enabled the successful export of GI-tagged Indi Lime from Vijayapura, Karnataka, to Oman, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s agricultural exports to the Middle East. This development underscores the growing global recognition of India’s Geographical Indication (GI) products and their role in enhancing farmer livelihoods.

The shipment highlights how GI recognition adds value to India’s unique agricultural produce, ensuring authenticity, traceability, and premium market positioning. For farmers in the Indi region of Vijayapura, the export opens new income opportunities by connecting local produce with international markets.

The export has been facilitated in line with the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to deepen bilateral trade relations and improve market access for Indian exporters. Under the agreement, agricultural and processed food products are expected to gain from reduced trade barriers and streamlined export procedures.

The India–Oman Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is poised to significantly strengthen export opportunities across key sectors, including agriculture, food processing, and allied industries. By promoting GI-tagged products such as Indi Lime, the agreement supports India’s broader objective of expanding its agri-export footprint while ensuring inclusive growth for farmers.

APEDA continues to play a pivotal role in promoting GI products globally, facilitating market linkages, and supporting Indian farmers and exporters in tapping high-potential international markets. The successful export of Indi Lime to Oman reflects India’s commitment to leveraging trade agreements to drive value-added agricultural exports and rural prosperity.
