Group CEO of SOMIC Dr. Gerhard Huber appointed Wirtschaftssenator

Dr. Gerhard Huber, Group CEO of SOMIC, has been honored by the Bundeswirtschaftssenat with the title of Wirtschaftssenator h.c. The official appointment ceremony took place on September 8, 2026, at the German Parliamentary Society in Berlin. The certificate was presented by Senator (ret.) Christoph Ahlhaus, Chairman of the Federal Executive Board of the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW), together with Hans-Josef Döllgen, Director of the Bundeswirtschaftssenat.

Recognition for his exemplary contributions

With this appointment, the Bundeswirtschaftssenat honors Dr. Gerhard Huber's exemplary contributions to the German Mittelstand as well as his responsible and outstanding entrepreneurial achievements and the reputation he has earned in business and society as a result. The Bundeswirtschaftssenat is a cross-party, exclusive body of the Bundesverband mittelständische Wirtschaft e.V. (BVMW) and brings together around 400 distinguished entrepreneurial figures who collectively generate annual revenues of approximately EUR 120 billion and are responsible for around 1.2 million jobs. The Senate sees itself as a link between business, politics, science, and society, fostering dialogue among these fields.

The appointment took place as part of the Bundeswirtschaftssenat's Diplomatic Day in Berlin. As part of this format, which promotes direct exchange between business and diplomacy, Dr. Gerhard Huber also met with ambassadors and representatives from South Korea, Italy, and Egypt, discussing economic opportunities, innovation potential, and prospects for international cooperation. The Diplomatic Day was further accompanied by speeches from Dr. Konstantin von Notz, Member of the German Bundestag, and Roderich Kiesewetter, Member of the German Bundestag.
