SIG, a leading solutions provider of packaging for better, announces the first expansion of its high-tech aseptic carton production plant in Querétaro, Mexico. Following the successful start of operations in early 2023, the company will invest an additional $35 million beginning in 2025, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the markets of Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Central America.

The expansion, scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2026, will boost the plant’s packaging output by 50% and enable SIG to offer a broader portfolio of carton formats. The facility will be capable of producing six key formats: SIG MiniBloc, SIG XSlimBloc, SIG PremiumBloc, SIG MaxiBloc, SIG MagnumBloc, and the SIG Midi family, covering a wide range of volumes from 80 ml to 2 liters. The company’s filling technology offers unmatched flexibility for customers – enabling rapid changeovers between formats, volumes, and designs – allowing them to stay agile in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.

With the expansion, SIG will also be better equipped to meet the growing market demand for small-volume packaging. The SIG MiniBloc and SIG XSlimBloc formats allow for the aseptic filling of products from 80 ml to 250 ml – ideal for on-the-go consumption and single-serve portions – with the added benefit of fast and flexible volume and design changes on SIG filling lines.

“North America is a strategic growth region for SIG, and this expansion reflects our strong belief in its potential,” said Ricardo Rodriguez, president and General Manager Americas at SIG. “With our Querétaro facility, we have established a world-class production hub. Now, we are scaling up to meet growing demand while continuing to deliver sustainable, innovative, and flexible packaging solutions to our customers.”

The Querétaro plant is one of SIG’s most advanced facilities worldwide. Built to meet the highest environmental, safety, and technological standards, the site already plays a vital role in the company’s North American supply network. Strategically located, the plant enables efficient distribution throughout the region with excellent logistics and production agility.

“Our team in Querétaro is proud to lead the way in operational excellence,” said Eugen Schreiber, SIG’s Head of Plant Operations in Querétaro. “This expansion will not only increase our output and packaging capabilities, but also create more than 50 new jobs, further contributing to the local economy and strengthening our presence in the region. Since the start of operations, the plant has already generated over 250 jobs, fostering local talent and development.”

With the expansion, SIG reinforces its long-term commitment to North America and positions itself to support customers with a broader portfolio, faster turnaround, and even more tailored solutions. The Querétaro plant will continue to serve as a cornerstone in the company’s global production network, enabling sustained growth through cutting-edge technology and market proximity. In addition to the investments and expansion, the site also houses a high-tech Reliability & Performance Center, inaugurated in February this year, which leverages advanced technology to deliver innovative remote asset management and technical support solutions to SIG’s customers.
