The inaugural ceremony brought together key leaders and stakeholders from the organic agriculture community. Among the dignitaries present were Ms. Jennifer Chang, Executive Director, IFOAM–Organics Asia; Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya; Shri Abhishek Dev, IAS, Chairman, APEDA; Mr. Brendan Hoare, Adviser, IFOAM–Organics Asia; and Shri Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, North Eastern Council. They shared insights on building resilient organic value chains and unlocking global market opportunities for Northeast India’s organic sector.

A major highlight of the event was the Buyer–Seller Meet (BSM), featuring key categories such as Biocell and Meat. The BSM saw active participation from 27 international buyers and 22 exporters, representing five countries—Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Singapore and South Korea—demonstrating growing international interest in the region’s organic potential.

The exhibition area showcased Meghalaya’s finest organic produce, including pineapples, oranges, jackfruit, premium cashews, and the renowned Lakadong turmeric. A diverse range of processed products presented by FPOs and local entrepreneurs further highlighted the region’s agricultural innovation and enterprise.

These collaborative engagements emphasized a unified vision: empowering farmers, enhancing partnerships, and positioning Northeast India as an emerging global hub for sustainable, high-value organic agriculture.
