Tetra Pak, a world leader in food processing and packaging solutions, will once again be present at Expocatadores as a supporter of this important event for the most relevant category in the recycling chain: recyclable material collectors.
“Our purpose is to support these essential workers within the circular economy,” says Valéria Michel, Director of Sustainability for Brazil and the Southern Cone at Tetra Pak. “And this means Tetra Pak contributing knowledge, logistics, and pathways to better income for this group,” she adds.
At Expocatadores 2025, taking place between the 17th and 19th of this month at the Anhembi space in São Paulo (SP), Tetra Pak will focus on networking to strengthen and expand the recycling of long-life cartons. Networking allows recycling cooperatives in the same region to join forces to complete loads of recyclable materials more quickly and efficiently, which are then sold to recyclers.
In other words, each cooperative provides the quantity of sorted packaging, which will be combined to form a load – generally 12 tons – so that the logistics of transport and marketing are as efficient as possible. Practical results include, for example, a reduction of approximately 90% in the time to form a minimum load of cartons sold to recyclers and an increase of up to 100% in the price per ton.
In 2025, for example, Tetra Pak will have already supported 206 entities in 16 states and the Federal District in shipping cargo through networking, totaling 1,300 tons of long-life packaging transported in this way between January and November of this year.
To disseminate more information about network selling, consultants from Tetra Pak's Connections Project will be participating in Expocatadores, answering questions and providing guidance to cooperatives and associations interested in the methodology. Created in 2008, Connections offers specialized consulting to cooperatives throughout the country, focusing on strengthening these organizations by supporting negotiations, logistics, training, and disseminating knowledge about recyclability in order to guarantee dignified conditions at all stages of this process.
Furthermore, all event visitors who go to the Tetra Pak booth will also have the opportunity to learn about the "People Who Recycle: Strengthening Network Sales" campaign, which features concrete examples of network-based work supported by Tetra Pak in the states of Espírito Santo and Pernambuco.
At the Tetra Pak booth, there will also be an interactive game for visitors and giveaways for those who participate.
