Analysis of sodium content in milk using ion-selective electrodes

Measuring the sodium content in milk is important for quality control and nutritional analysis. A modern, efficient approach involves using ion-selective electrodes (ISEs), which provide accurate and reliable results quickly.

Two types of sodium ion-selective electrodes commonly used for this purpose are the perfectION Na+ combined electrode and the DX223-Na+ half-cell electrode, which requires an additional reference electrode. Both are effective, but each has its advantages depending on the specific needs of the testing process.

The procedure starts with calibrating the electrodes using standard sodium solutions, ensuring precision in the readings. To maintain measurement accuracy, it is essential to control factors like sample temperature and pH, as well as to avoid interference from other ions.
