The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has announced significant progress in supporting India’s micro and small food processing enterprises under its flagship schemes, driving growth and modernization in the sector.
Through its Centrally Sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, MoFPI has extended credit-linked capital subsidies to 1,44,517 micro food processing enterprises across the country as of 30 June 2025. Individual micro enterprises are eligible for 35% capital subsidy on project costs, up to a maximum of ₹10 lakh per unit, facilitating expansion, modernization, and formalization.
Under the capacity-building component of the PMFME scheme, MoFPI has trained 1,16,666 beneficiaries, including trainers, district resource persons, and entrepreneurs. These programs focus on Entrepreneurship Development Skilling (EDP+) and product-specific training to meet evolving industry requirements.
MoFPI is also incentivizing infrastructure creation and enterprise growth through two Central Sector Schemes—the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI). Both schemes, along with PMFME, are demand-driven and implemented nationwide, benefiting eligible applicants, including MSMEs, across all states.
Highlighting state-level implementation, in Bihar alone, MoFPI has approved 13 food processing projects under PMKSY, 7 proposals under PLISFPI, and 25,349 proposals under PMFME as of 30 June 2025.
These initiatives collectively act as a catalyst for the growth of India’s food processing sector, enabling MSMEs to access financial incentives, modern technology, and skill development support.
Providing details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Shri Ravneet Singh said that the government remains committed to strengthening the sector’s infrastructure and competitiveness. The schemes are designed to ensure balanced, inclusive growth and contribute to India’s vision of becoming a global food processing hub.
