OMRON, global leader in industrial automation, announced the inauguration of its new Automation Center in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term commitment to advance industrial automation-based transformation of India’s manufacturing sector.
The Center, part of OMRON’s global network of 44 Automation Centers and Proof of Concept (POC) labs, is strategically located to serve manufacturers in South India as well as across the country, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to empower them to make world-class in India.
Supporting the government's Make in India and Industry 4.0 initiatives, the Center demonstrates practical automation solutions for manufacturing challenges, facilitates proof-of-concept development, provides technical training, and enables collaboration with manufacturers, machine builders, and system integrators to strengthen India's manufacturing capabilities
The launch also underscores the deepening India–Japan partnership, as both nations expand collaboration in technology, talent, and supply chain resilience. With Japan committing ¥10 trillion in investments over the next decade across sectors such as semiconductors and digital industries, the Center contributes to a shared ambition of positioning India as a trusted global hub for smart manufacturing and innovation.
India's manufacturing sector is at a transformative juncture. The goal to raise manufacturing’s GDP share from ~12-15% to 23% over the next two decades is ambitious but within reach, provided there’s sustained focus on technology adoption, skills and infrastructure development. Industrial automation plays a pivotal role by enhancing productivity, global competitiveness, and sustainability.
Speaking at the inauguration, Motohiro Yamanishi, Company President, Industrial Automation Company, OMRON Corporation, Japan, said, “We see immense potential in the dynamism of India's manufacturing sector. The Automation Center underscores India's profound importance to our global as well as Asia Pacific vision and is designed to work hand-in-hand with local partners to enhance their global competitiveness and jointly address evolving societal needs through innovative automation. This Center is more than a showcase of technology; it is an engine for co-creation. With smart technologies driving efficiency and innovation, facilities like these are set to be one of the key catalysts in India’s journey toward becoming a global manufacturing leader."
Expanding on the broader vision behind the center’s establishment, Sameer Gandhi, Managing Director, OMRON Automation, India shared, “At OMRON, we believe technology should serve society's greatest needs. Our Automation Center takes a solutions-based approach to help Indian manufacturers tackle the challenges of building safer workplaces, delivering higher quality products, and improve efficiencies. This is about more than automation, it's about participating towards creating a manufacturing ecosystem that has an active role in protecting public health, reducing waste, and driving economic growth.”
Building on a proven track record of growth, with a CAGR of over 15% since 2013 and more than 20% in the last three years, OMRON Automation in India is poised to continue this momentum by targeting a rate exceeding 15% CAGR and achieving a turnover of INR 600 crore in FY 25-26. The newly established Automation Center serves as a strategic cornerstone to help achieve these ambitious goals. The center will be instrumental in this effort, while also cultivating future talent by supporting the skill development of over 1,000 industry engineers annually.
"Bengaluru is the ideal hub for this center," Sameer stated. "Its culture of innovation, combined with a central location and superior connectivity, allows us to efficiently serve industrial clients across South, West, and North India."
Nestled around an hour away from Bengaluru International Airport, the Automation Center is a dynamic hub where an experienced team of specialists facilitate demonstration and interactions with manufactures around a comprehensive suite of advanced technology based solutions, including sensing, control, machine vision, safety, robotics, and AI-driven technologies developed by OMRON as well as its global and regional partners.
The solutions are designed to support key manufacturing regions across India, spanning sectors such as electric mobility, digital, food and commodities, logistics, and pharmaceuticals, among others. These solutions, such as Industry 4.0 data visualization, flexible assembly, primary and secondary packaging, end-to-end inspection, quality inspection and automated palletizing demonstrate how industry’s pressing needs, such as enhancing quality, boosting productivity, while ensuring traceability, safety and compliancecan be met through advanced OMRON technologies.
One of the notable solutions displayed at the facility is the integrated solution with Cognizant. It brings the true potential of IT-OT convergence to life, seamlessly transforming real-time machine data from OMRON PLCs, sensors, and robots into actionable business intelligence through Cognizant's cloud service, powered by APEx and Generative AI. The result is a powerful solution that generates real-time analytics, dashboards, and predictive insights, enabling shop floors to achieve early defect detection, implement predictive maintenance, and optimize cycle times.
