Cargill’s salt business has signed an agreement with CIECH Group, a leading supplier of evaporated salt products.

The food grade evaporated salts manufactured by CIECH, will be combined with Cargill’s industry-leading portfolio of specialty food salts, including Alberger, Premier, Microsized, and Potassium Pro. By working with CIECH, through their facilities in Janikowo, Poland and Stassfurt, Germany, Cargill now can provide access to a full range of specialty and evaporated food salt solutions to European food manufacturers.

The move complements Cargill’s existing food ingredients portfolio in Europe, which spans edible fats & oils, starches, sweeteners, plant proteins, texturizers, cocoa & chocolate and more, leveraging the company’s decades of experience supporting customers with salt products and sodium-reduction solutions.

“We’ve been in the salt business in North America for more than 60 years, a legacy that gives us ample experience of providing technical expertise to customers looking to formulate foods with this foundational ingredient,” said Sonya Roberts, president of Cargill’s salt business.

“This is an important stage in the development of our salt business as we are leveraging the extensive experience of Cargill to bring cutting-edge evaporated salt to the European market,” said Philipp Kley, CIECH Group’s director of the Business Unit Salt.

The cooperation comes at a time when CIECH Group offers additional volumes from its state-of-the art salt production facility in Stassfurt, Germany. That facility, combined with production from the company’s Janikowo plant in Poland, makes CIECH Group one of the biggest producers of evaporated salt in Europe. Cargill is a leading supplier of food-grade salt and sodium solutions in North America, where it operates salt production facilities in both the U.S. and the Caribbean.
