In a significant boost to India’s agricultural exports, the first trial shipment of 1.2 MT of Garhwali apples (King Roat variety) from Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, to Dubai, UAE, was flagged off by Shri Sunil Barthwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The consignment, facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), marks a major milestone in positioning Uttarakhand as a key contributor to India’s expanding agricultural export basket.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Shri Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA, Ms. Jharna Kamthan, Additional Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, and Dr. Nripendra Chauhan, Director, CAP, along with senior officials from the Government of Uttarakhand. The event reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to supporting farmers and promoting high-quality produce from the state in international markets.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen agri-exports from the Himalayan region, APEDA is working closely with the Government of Uttarakhand to establish a dedicated Regional Office in Dehradun. This office will provide targeted support to farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and exporters, helping them access global markets more efficiently.

This initiative is expected to open new opportunities for premium horticulture produce from Uttarakhand and enhance the state’s visibility in the international fruit trade.
